Matthew started kindergarten on August 27th 1993. He attended Latson Road Elementary School. His first school teacher was Mrs. Sandy Johnson. Matt really liked going to school to be with the other kids and it made him feel "bigger", he said. One of his first friends was Kyle Saari. Kyle also lived down the street from Gramma & Grampas house.
He was also close with Kyle Burns as they went to school and played baseball together.
Matt made friends with Brian Dunt the year Brian moved to Howell schools. He also lived down the street was his grandparents house. They were inseparable for many years. Even vacationing with each others families.

Matt took a trip of a lifetime. He went on a 4 week road trip to Alaska with his Dad, Uncle Bob, Grampa Yack, and two cousins, Arron and Brian. It was a guys trip. He had a wonderful time and took many pictures and talked about that trip for along time.He thought it was great to go on this trip as he was one of the only kids he knew that had been to Alaska. |

Matt attended Howell High School Freshman Campus. His class was the first class to be in there. Matt had so many friends by now that he liked going to school more to be social. He loved talking to friends and having fun. He loved to make people laugh, he didn't like to see people sad and he did whatever he could to change that. He was a jokester and he was a tender hearted young man that cared about people. Matt was in the Men's Varsity Choir, he so loved that class and he thought Mr. Bushey was the best. Matt looked so handsome in his Tux that they performed in.
The class did a mural on the wall inside the school, it is of a fishing boat with men fishing. Everyone in the class of 2006 signed this mural in the sky or in the water. They put Matthews name on the back of the boat as a memorial to him. |

He was just 15 years old. In the 9th grade.
Matt had a brain aneurysm on April 4th. He laid in a coma until he passed on April 11th at 3:39 pm at U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor.
The aneurysm was caused by infection that had set in the cerebral artery, is what the brain surgeon told us after a 6 hour surgery. Matt had had pneumonia in March.
That evening our very dear friends, Steve and Ann, named a star after him. At his funeral luncheon (which my co-workers held for us) Ann gave out star pins to everyone in the family . She said that way all the family even Texas and Illinois family can look up and see Matt.

Thanks to Howell's Class of 2006
This January, we received a letter from the Howell High School 2006 class adviser stating to us that the Class of 2006 had donated $1,000 to our son's scholarship. Our son, Matthew Yack, passed away in 2003 as a freshman at Howell High School. The community and classmates were quite overwhelming with their support. Those wonderful kids carried our son through all of their high school years including graduation, where we received an honorary diploma for Matt.
We want to make sure that we thank these wonderful kids for donating to the Matthew Yack Memorial Scholarship Fund at Howell High School.
They have truly shown us that our son is not, nor will he be, forgotten.
So, to the Class of 2006, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
